PRODUCED BY SILK SHEEN PRODUCTIONS
Wireless Operator by Bob Baldwin, is an innovative new one-man show on the road this Autumn in honor of the 75th Anniversary of the end of World War II.
This stunning production is a powerful portrait of a young man, barely an adult, as he struggles to survive the trauma of one horrifying night in a Lancaster Bomber. Bob Baldwin's father was a wireless operator in WW2 and the compelling narrative is compiled from memoirs, first hand reports and the log books of many operations.
Confined in the claustrophobic aircraft the young crew struggle to survive. They avoid searchlights and flak; witness fellow airmen blown out of the sky and plunge into zero gravity corkscrew manoeuvres to evade enemy aircraft. As they unleash their deadly cargo onto the city below, the wireless operator agonises about the real cost of their mission. The play reveals the triggers to the lifelong legacy that traumatised those airmen who survived.
Featuring a startling and captivating physical performance, and a unique soundscape based on the iconic Rolls Royce Merlin engines, this heartfelt new production is not one to be missed!
